Happy New Year! Are you ready to tackle the New Year and get things done? If you anything like me, you need some systems in place to make yourself accountable and to feel accomplished. I love making lists and crossing things off with a flourish! DONE! Woo hoo! I know you’re smiling right now because you’ve done it too. It just feels good to be productive and see progress.
Here are a few things that I use to keep myself organized and accountable:
I’m using the Erin Condren Life Planner with the vertical layout. I love the monthly view and on the weekly view, there is more than enough space to write all of my tasks. There is a lined note page at the end of each month and I use that for brainstorming and taking notes on videos that I watch on my lunch hour. There is space for goal setting on the monthly view as well. You can personalize the covers on the Erin Condren planners too. They are interchangeable if you want to change the covers with the seasons or your goals. I typically decorate my planner after the month is over because I like using my planner as a daily diary of tasks and errands too. I buy my embellishments from Etsy stores because I love supporting small businesses.
My Vision Board is located in my kitchen where I can see it every day. I have inspirational quotes, fortune cookie sayings, cards from special people and photos that make me smile. It’s very important to have your Vision Board be super visible where you can be reminded of your WHY and be inspired to take action every day. Even if it’s a small step, it’s a step forward toward your dreams and aspirations.
Ever since I was a young girl, I kept a diary. All of my raw emotions, boy crushes and teenage frustrations were scribbled on those pages. Somewhere along the way in my adult life, I got away from letting those emotions flow outward. This year, I’m getting back into writing in a journal every day. No matter how short or how long, the words are flowing out. I need to get them out of my head and off my chest. Keeping them inside has been eating me alive and I know that is not a healthy path for me at all. I encourage you to sit down each day and let your feelings flow. You’ll feel so much better.
Digital Calendar with Alerts
In addition to my paper planner, I also keep all of my appointments on my iPhone and set up alerts to keep me on time and accountable. I like being able to move appointments around with the touch of a button if things get rescheduled. I also like being reminded at certain times before my appointments so that I’m not rushing to get out the door. I give myself more than enough time to wrap up my present task and prepare for my next one.
I live my entire life by Post-It Notes. These things are a life saver! I use them a ton at work to let my boss know the status of projects. I jot down things that I need to remember and stick them on my glasses case so that I know to either put them on my calendar or remember to put something in the car to take somewhere. I keep them in my paper planner with lists of ideas and when I’ve crossed them all off, then I can toss the Post-It and make room for more. Plus, the cheery colors make me smile! Any way that I can brighten my busy days is awesome!
What systems do you have in place to tackle the New Year? I’d love to hear from you!
